If you shot video through the 1990s and into the millenium, there is a good chance you have tapes in the 8mm video format. The 8mm video format was introduced in the late 1980s by Sony, providing a noticeable quality upgrade over VHS and quickly replaced it as the most popular consumer format. The 8mm video format was updated by Sony twice - first to the Hi8 video format, and in the mid 1990s to the Digital8 video format. Unfortunately, as new digital technologies became available in the 2000s, many consumers upgraded their 8mm Camcorders to MiniDV Camcorder, MicroMV Camcorders, and even Hard Drive Camcorders. 8mm camcorders and 8mm players have become scarce, leaving many people with memories stuck on their 8mm videotapes they can no longer watch.
Unfortunately, 8mm videotapes degrade over time just like all other formats of analog videotapes, leaving your memories in danger of being lost. Another major drawback is that there was never an inexpensive 8mm video player ever produced, so in order to watch your videos, you needed to replay the tapes back on your 8mm camcorder, causing unnecessary way on the camcorder video heads.
But we are here to help. With MemoryHub, there is no need to buy an expensive 8mm Player to convert your 8mm to DVD. Just place an order and send your 8mm tapes to MemoryHub and let us convert them for you!
Relax knowing that you saved money and your precious memories are safe.

"As the family historian, I've found MemoryHub's services to be invaluable. Their handling of my boxes of irreplaceable photos from the early 1900's was professional, courteous and sensitive to the value of the photos they were handling. My photos were returned in excellent condition and the high quality digitally archived images created from them have been extraordinarily useful in my recent publications."—Lyman, Philadelphia PA
There are three primary formats of 8mm video that will comprise your collection of videotapes. You probably have a mix of the following videotape formats if you were shooting over an extended period of time. We convert the following 8mm video formats to DVD:
8mm tapes are one of three 8mm video formats - 8mm (also called Video8 or Regular8), Hi8 or Digital 8. 8mm was the original 8mm video format introduced by Sony, and was a video format made popular by Sony in the late 80's to compete with the S-VHS format.
While 8mm Videotape cassettes are the same size as regular Hi8 and Digital 8 cassettes, 8mm camcorders initially used a lower grade of videotape and recording heads than the later Hi8 and Digital8 video formats. Regular8 or 8mm tapes are rated at a luminance resolution of 240 lines, whereas Hi8 tapes are rated at a luminance resolution of 420 horizontal lines.
8mm videotapes will almost always contain a maximum of two hours of video if you used the whole tape. Depending on the type of 8mm video cassette you originally purchased, however, it may only contain one hour of video footage.
Unfortunately, there is no 8mm tape adapter that would allow you to watch your 8mm video through your VCR, and Sony has discontinued manufacturing most 8mm players and cameras. If you don't have your original 8mm Camera or a 8mm Video Player, your best bet is to send us your 8mm videotapes, and we will convert them to high quality DVDs that you can play on your Set-top DVD player or your computer.
