Stuck with a bunch of Digital8 tapes and no Digital8 Player?

Film to DVD Transfer

If you shot video through the 1990s and into the millenium, there is a good chance you have tapes in the Digital8 video format.  The Digital8 video format was introduced in the late 1980s by Sony and provided a noticeable quality upgrade over their earlier Regular 8 / Video8 format.  Unfortunately, as new digital technologies became available in the 2000s, many of our customers upgraded their Digital8 Camcorders to MiniDV Camcorder, MicroMV Camcorders, and even Hard Drive Camcorders.  Digital8 camcorders and Digital8 players have become scarce, leaving many people with memories stuck on videotapes they can no longer watch.

Unfortunately, Digital8 videotapes degrade over time just like all other formats of analog videotapes, leaving your memories in danger of being lost.  But we are here to help.  With MemoryHub, there is no need to buy and expensive Digital8 Player to convert your Digital8 to DVD.  Just place an order and send your Digital8 tapes to MemoryHub and let us convert them for you!

Details about our Digital8 to DVD Conversion Services

What type of Digital8 video formats do you convert to DVD?

There are three primary formats of 8mm video that will comprise your collection of videotapes. You probably have a mix of the following videotape formats if you were shooting over an extended period of time.

What are Digital8 Tapes?

Digital8 tapes are one of three 8mm video formats - Video8 (also called 8mm or Regular8), Digital8 and Digital 8. Digital8 is short for Hi-band Video 8, and is a video format made popular by Sony in the late 80's to compete with the S-VHS format.

While Digital8 Videotape cassettes are the same size as regular Video8 cassettes, Digital8 Videotapes use higher grade videotape and recording heads to record more detailed pictures. Digital8 tapes are rated at a luminance resolution of 420 horizontal lines, whereas Regular8 or 8mm tapes are at 240 lines.

How many hours of video do Digital8 tapes have

Digital8 videotapes will usually contain two hours of video if you used the whole tape. Depending on the type of Digital8 video cassette you originally purchased, however, it may only contain one hour of video footage.

I don't have a Digital8 Player. Is there a Digital8 adapter for my VCR?

Unfortunately, there is no Digital8 tape adapter that would allow you to watch your Digital8 video through your VCR, and Sony has discontinued manufacturing most Digital8 players and cameras. If you don't have your original Digital8 Camera or a Digital8 Video Player, your best bet is to send us your Digital8 videotapes, and we will convert them to high quality DVDs that you can play on your Set-top DVD player or your computer.
